Net Zero Déifferdeng 2030 - Living sustainably in Differdange
100 towns and cities in the European Union and 12 associated countries are launching a major challenge: carbon neutrality by 2030.
Differdange was selected as one of 100 cities out of all applicants due to its achievements to date in the area of improving the quality of life and its fight against greenhouse gases, and is the only participating city in Luxembourg.Together, we are taking up the challenge of realizing the ‘100 NetZero Cities 2030’ mission.
"The aim is to achieve carbon neutrality, i.e. to seek to reduce our emissions and offset them ourselves. As a ‘Mission City’, Differdange is committed to including all the city’s stakeholders in a systemic approach. "
NetZeroCities is helping Differdange to overcome the structural, institutional and cultural barriers it faces in achieving climate neutrality by 2030, by bringing together 33 major city networks and research organizations from 13 countries.
For the city, the journey began with the signing of the Climate City Contract, an innovative governance instrument designed to help achieve the goal of climate neutrality by 2030 by accelerating collaborative action at all levels.
"I am extremely proud that Differdange has been selected for this ambitious project. I have complete confidence in our citizens' commitment to making this mission a success, thereby improving our quality of life while also serving as a beacon for other European cities."
Guy Altmeisch, mayor
"To have been chosen from among all the candidate towns is a testament to the soundness of the steps taken and the enormous potential offered by the town of Differdange’.
Tom Ulveling, 1st alderman
"Investing in resilience now is much cheaper than waiting until we have to pay for what has been missed. The network provided by NetZeroCities will enable us to make the right choices."
Fred Bertinelli, Alderman
Every citizen, industrialist, shopkeeper or self-employed professional contributes to shaping a future worth living. Through your involvement in the thematic workshops, through your initiatives, you work towards carbon neutrality by 2030.
The city, in collaboration with its residents, has set five crucial goals to realize its vision, including improving the energy efficiency of buildings through renovations, increasing energy autonomy, reducing car traffic, improving waste management and offsetting the remaining CO2 emissions on its own territory.
The designated cities, including Differdange, under the aegis of the European NetZeroCities mission, aim to achieve climate neutrality by 2030 and to encourage other cities to do the same by 2050.
"NetZero is not just Differdange’s project, it’s everyone’s! Find out about the upcoming workshops offered by the NetZero 2030 mission and register online to take part, as soon as the registration window opens!"
